When Cubase turned on, the input signal of my UR28m cut's off

Hi, I can not record my Summit synth via UR28m. When Cubase turned off, I can hear the incoming signal of the Summit by headphone plugged into UR28m. When I start up Cubase this signal disappears. Does anyone knows what is happening?

Thanks in advance,

Hi and welcoe to the forum,

When you start Cubase, it overtakes control over the DspMixFX. So you have to setup Cubase to receive the signal.

Open Studio > Audio Connections > Input and add an Input Bus.

Then add an Audio Track and select the given input.

Hi Martin, thank you for your response,

I did exactly what you mentioned but same result. Not even seeing there’s audio coming into Cubase. Stereo in UR28M analog in 1
UR28M analog in 2
Cubase does see the UR28M but no incoming audio.

But unfortunately same result, no sound

Hi,

Can you see the signal on the Input (red) Channel in the MixConsole?

No, I can’t…that’s the problem.

Hi,

Can you see the metres on the Audio Device?

Yes, on my UR28M meters indicate incoming signal from my synth.

I use the UR28M also as a sound card for my MacBook Pro. When I play a YouTube clip, the meters indicate there’s audio coming in. Im also able to record this. But when analog 1/2 is selected no incoming signal is detected. Again, after start up Cubase.

Hi,

What is the audio source on the Input 1/2, please?

Input source is My Summit synth with xlr cable into analog in 1/2. (witch I can hear with headphones plugged in on my UR28M when cubase is not activated)

Hi,

To see the meters (and hear the sound) on the Audio Track, you would need to enable the Monitor button on the track.

In the MixConsole, you would see the meters on the red-fader Input channel, without Monito enabled.

Tried that as well, but there’s no audio at all in cubase. Can it have something to do with loop function that prevents feedback loop. Long time ago I had to switch something to be able record audio from youtube?

Hi,

Do you mean the Loopback recording? No, this setting shouldn’t affect it.

Could you attach a screenshot of the MixConsole, please?

At work now. Send this tonight.

My synth is now playing and this is what I see on my MixConsole…no signal whatsoever.

Hi,

I have to say, it’s a mystery.

Could you try in the Cubase Safe Start Mode [Disable preferences], please?

Maybe it’s the microphone privacy setting. Check this is enabled for Cubase.

Hi Martin, that worked. Finally audio coming in!

but how to go further now? Cubase even ask to register again?

Hi,

Now call the Safe Start Mode dialog again and Delete the preferences. Or you can just delete the defaults.xml file manually from the Preferences folder.

Cubase Preferences folders are:
Mac: ~/Library/Preferences/Cubase X
Win: %appData% \Steinberg\Cubase X_64

Where the X is the Cubase version (for example 13).
