When installing from backup, Dorico destroys its own files

I’m trying to reinstall Dorico. I backed up the tens of gigabytes of downloaded files. When I was ready to reinstall Dorico, I began by installing the Activation Manager, then signed in, and selected Dorico 5 from the products on the left. I changed the Target Folder to be the directory to which I’ve restored the downloaded packages (still in their WIN64 subfolder).

Dorico didn’t seem to recognize that the installer files existed, as the “Open Folder” option under each of the drop-down action buttons is grayed out. So I tried re-downloading one, just to see what would happen. I chose Olympus Choir Micro, as it’s comparatively small. It downloaded, and installed — but erased its own downloaded package when it was done! The old folder WIN64\Olympus Choir Micro, which used to hold my restored packages from the backup, became empty. (Strangely, the Activation Manager now shows an “Install again” option. When I clicked that, it downloaded the half-gigabyte packages yet again.)

How do I get the Activation Manager to see the restored-from-backup packages instead of re-downloading (and erasing) them?

That means the download was successful; its just a safety allowing one to reload the program if necessary.

I think you are mistaken. The Steinberg Activation Manager (SAM) deals with licenses — you can activate up to three computers to use your apps. The Steinberg Download Assistant (SDA) is the one that downloads and installs apps and updates. Not very important but it’s always a good thing to be precise.

To be honest, I would just use Steinberg Download Manager to download and install the whole thing, rather than trying to restore the backup version.

My experience has always been that a successful installation deletes the installer.
