I’m trying out Nuendo and have hit a hurdle. I am migrating my Generic Remotes over to the MIDI Remote. I use Vienna Ensemble Pro. In the GR, the VEP Instances come up as a device which I can connect to, so as to automate parameters in VEP. I can’t see this option in the MIDI Remote. Maybe someone could share how is this done?
Hi,
When using Generic Remote, you have to have the Instrument Track with the VEP available. The same applies for the MIDI Remote.
In both cases, there is not direct connection to the Instrument and parameter. The connection is to the slot and to the parameter number (whatever sits in the slot and whatever parameter is on the given number).
Thanks for the reply. Could you please tell me under which Functions Browser category is the device option? I typed in the name of the VEP Instance like I would with the GR but nothing came up, even though Nuendo was connected to multiple VEP instances. Also, I am not seeing options for Insert Slot x parameters for Selected Track e.g. ‘Slot 1 Insert ProQ Bypass’ like the VST Mixer in the GR.
How is it that I have 50 channels in MixConsole 2 and no matter which channel name I type in the search field in the Functions Browser, none of them come up. Other than the PLE preset I use to select them. How are there no channel specific functions available like the GR has? In this shot you can see that although I have a track selected with ProQ 3, none of its parameters are showing up in the Functions Browser.
And where are the options for specific track functions e.g. Hi Hats /Slot 1/ ProQ /Band 1/ Gain’?
Hi,
MID Remote is not linked with the channel names (same as Generic Remote is not, but Generic Remote fakes it is). Both of them are linked with the Channel slots.
MIDI Remote has a rather hardware approach. So you can work with the Selected Channel, or you can work with the Channel Banks (for example bank of 8 channels, which is the most common way). Then you can shift the banks.
What hardware do you want to use?
Could you attach a screenshot of your Generic Remote assignment, to see, what you want to achieve, please?
Sure. I am only using VEP as a device, no hardware. Here is three screenshots of what I am trying to achieve. The first one shows control over VEP (Low Brass) parameters, Nuendo Channel/Slot specific Sends Levels/Bypass as well as Solo and Mute.
This screenshot shows control over various VEP parameters.
This screenshot shows control over the Selected Channels insert FX, in this case, Soothe2.
Hi,
I see. As I mentioned MIDI Remote concept is slightly different.
Which hardware controller do you use? From which device do you send the MIDI data? How many faders does it have (how big is the bank)?
I’m using MetaGrid Pro, so basically infinite faders and buttons.
Hi,
Do you use Project Templates?
Would the Selected Channel approach work for you?
Yes I use Templates. Not really. My setup is designed to control channels/slots whether the channel is selected or not. As I use mainly MIDI channels in the project view and MetaGrid gives me control over the output channels coming from VEP in the MixConsole, without having to actually open the MixConsole. I need control over channel/slot specific parameters.
Hi,
Then, you would need to create a big MixerChannel Bank, where the size is the same as the number of tracks in your template project.
Okay, I see. And also, I still can’t seem to figure out where the VEP instances are accessed from the MIDI Remote.
Hi,
Once you create the faders, in the MIDI Remote Mapping Assistant > MixConsole > Mixer Bank Zone > === Setup ===, you will set the size of the Bank (i.e. the number of Channels in your project).
Then you can reach every single Channel from here.
Great! Could you also please point me to where I might locate the VEP instances in order to automate parameters therein? Like the ‘Low Brass’ or ‘Strings’ devices in my first and second screenshot.
Hi,
In my case it’s Channel 4. Here you can select any parameter of the Channel, or the Instrument parameters. Again, you can setup, how many parameters are available (like the parameters banks).
Thankyou for the help.
