Where are the VSL Expressionmaps in Dorico 6?

He Community,
I’ve bought Dorico 6 yesterday. I’m very new with Dorico and I have to learn a lot of things. So, I will use Dorico with my Vienna-libary. But when I open for example a violin-system, Dorico 6 loads the Instrument with the synchron-player but there are no expression maps from VSL available. So Dorico dosen’t do play-techniques or dynamics like pizz, arco, stacc, p, f, cresc. and so on.
What do I have to do when I want that Dorico loads all setups automatically and in a correct way?
It’s interesting: When I load a project, that I started with Dorico 5, then there are the expression maps from VSL.

Thanks Paul

You have to use the Dorico Wizard in the Vienna Assistant to make a Playback Template which you can then apply in your project.

Import expression maps

I suspect you imported it in Dorico v5, but have not for Dorico v6, so it’s not there in its location for v6 to find, list.

Thanks for your answer.
I didn’t imported anything in Dorico 5. Everything rans automatically.
All libaries are saved in my Dorico Wizard. I don’t know what to do.

You have to go into the Play menu in Dorico and choose Apply Playback Template, and apply the template you made in the Dorico Wizard.

Nothing happens :frowning:

I would contact VSL about it - support at vsl dot co dot at

Okay. Thank you

There is information on the URL I gave you, in the Setup section. Did you do this? click on the below, it relates to Dorico prefs.

That’s for setting the default playback template for Dorico, if you want it to load up VSL automatically for any newly made score by default without having to apply the Playback Template manually. In this case the Playback Template doesn’t seem to be working for the user, so making a Playback Template that isn’t working the Dorico default so that it applies to all new scores isn’t likely to help with anything.

Ah, OK, I’m not much use then, sorry everyone! Thank you

Do i have to “tell” Vienna assistant that I’m now using Dorico 6 or the other way around? Do I have to delete any connections to Dorico 5? Or reconnect something? But where can I do that? Is it possible that Dorico 6 is to new yet and Vienna dosen’t have latest updates for the moment?
I don’t know.
Thanks for trying to help me.

Paul

Simply ask VSL Paul (as @mducharme has recommended) as it is their product and they can give you the information. Presumably they will have other customers with the same questions, so they might add information at their website (presumably you have looked and there is nothing there at the moment.)
However you might well get some more comments here in the meantime (better than mine were!)

He Community,
Vienna has answered my question. An Update in Vienna Assistant for dorico6 is in preperation.
Thanks for helping
Habe a nice day

Thank you for reporting this, others here with the same problem might find this thread you created and now know to wait and look for their update.

I’m not familiar with VSL, but one possibility is that the current installers will be putting necessary material in %programdata%\Steinberg\Dorico 5 (at least on Windows). It may be that you can simply copy the contents of that directory into %programdata%\Steinberg\Dorico 6. Obviously an official VSL installer - or the equivalent from other manufacturers - will be better but this might be something worth trying in the meantime.

Yep, the Dorico Wizard in the Vienna Assistant simply doesn’t know that D6 exists yet. You can copy everything from that folder over if you want, but specifically you’ll need the relevant VSL subfolders in DefaultLibraryAdditions, EndpointConfigs, and PlaybackTemplateSpecs. There’s a vsl-playing-techniques.doricolib file in DefaultLibraryAdditions you’ll need too. Works fine in D6.

Yes, exactly, I was already starting to assume that I was the issue, but couldn’t verify as I have a big Cubase project open with a VE Pro template using all my RAM so can’t really start Dorico at the moment. Although I had hoped that maybe they programmed the Vienna Assistant to match any future Dorico folders by looking for any that matched Dorico followed by a single digit number rather than literal strings “Dorico 4” and “Dorico 5”.

For many it might be easier to just wait for the update if it can be done quickly rather than attempt to copy the files around manually.

Just wanted to let you know, VSL has just come out with the update today for Vienna Assistant that makes the Dorico Wizard work properly with Dorico 6.
