Where did the Meter go?

So I just updated to Cubase 15.0.6 (Pro) and now my right zone output meters are nowhere to be found. Just gone. I haven’t changed any settings anywhere other than the update itself, and now the meters are simply not visible. Googled for search options, but found nothing useful other than verify outputs and ASIO driver. Went into Preferences, no help there.
The large meters are just… GONE.

Any ideas?

If you right click the tab area of the right zone you can define which tabs should be displayed. Maybe Meter just got switched off for some reason.

When I right click, it shows that both Meter and CR are checked. I’m referring to the right zone in the Mix Console window, but the same thing is occurring in the right zone of the main Edit window. The Meter is just gone.

This disappearing meter has occurred across all my projects, and it started the first time I loaded Cubase after updating to 15.0.6
Also, it keeps telling me my Amplitube 5 plugin is unstable. And that also started as soon as I updated. Maybe I just need to revert back, but I don’t know how to do that without risking losing all my work.

Hi,

maybe your preferences have not been properly migrated from your previous version during the installation process.
Try this, please:

Close Cubase and rename the preference folder “Cubase 15_64” to “_Cubase 15_64”.
C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Steinberg\Cubase 15_64 (Windows)

Relaunch Cubase and see if the meter reappears. If you kept your previous Cubase versions on your system all settings from the latest version (up to two versions down) will be migrated to the new preference folder.

Does this work?

In opening C:\Users\Username\…. there is no “Appdata” item or folder. This is all there is:

In fact, when I search file explorer, there is no Cubase 15_64 at all.

FWIW, I have a fairly recent PC running Windows 11Pro, 64Gb RAM, all the goodies.

Windows hides appdata by default, you need to show hidden items in explorer. (View menu)

So when you wrote: “updated to Cubase 15.0.6”, do you mean that you updated from C14 or even older version, or that you updated from an earlier Cubase 15 release (like 15.0.5)?

In the case of Amplitube, if Cubase says that it crashed in that plugin, it is usually correct and I would check if you have the latest Amplitube version installed.

I had Cubase 14 Pro, and then upgraded to 15 Pro when it was first released, then a few weeks later updated to 15.0.6 after that was released. Then suddenly… no Meter. Still haven’t recovered that.

I’m not getting the Amplitube 5 crash anymore, but I have noticed that Halion 7 is now unstable with the volume. It will just randomly drop to almost mute, even though all volume indicators are normal.

Finally got around to getting into Appdata and reseting as you suggested, but that didn’t work. Still no Meter visible in either the Mix or Edit windows. The closest I can get is to select the Master out in the Editor and have that Meter visible on the lefthand side. But then of course as I select other tracks, I can’t see that meter anymore.

VERY &*#!! frustrating!

Can you make screenshots of your right zone with a bit of the surroundings visible?

Sure thing. Here:

I’m including a screenshot of my Meter settings in Preferences.

Oh, and just for fun and giggles, this is what all the Steinberg plugins look like now. This is a f*ing mess since the “update” (15.0.6).

Think I’m going to have to go back to Pro Tools. I cannot do any professional work with this DAW right now. Very unhappy customer!

The plugin UI issue happened to some other users before and indicates something is wrong with the Cubase installation. Please uninstall Cubase first, then install it again.
Important: You must uninstall first, otherwise nothing will improve.

Regarding the missing meters: I have never seen this before. After fixing the issue with the Cubase installation (for the plugin UIs), go to the Edit menu → Profile Manager and chose to create a new profile. You can do this already from the Hub window, no need to start a project. After its creation select it and make it active. Cubase will prompt you for a restart of Cubase.

Please let us know if any or both of the issues were fixed by the above steps.

Yep. I just uninstalled Cubase 15 altogether, then went through the fun of reinstalling it and some content, and now everything is back to normal.

I got the meter back and the effects look like they’re supposed to.

Vary aggravating experience.

Thanks for helping out!!

No idea what was wrong with the meters. Glad to hear it works. Hope, you can use the tools now instead of fighting with them.
