I’m about to start rendering using the workflow suggested by Justin Perkins in his excellent WL walkthrough, inserting a dither plugin in the “output” section (rather than in the “master” section).
However, I’m a bit confused by the mention of an “internal dither” in the online manual. Is this still relevant in WL 11.2? I can’t seem to find an internal dither anywhere.
I just don’t want to apply two dithering processes at the same time by mistake. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!
Thanks for the reply, but that is not the problem.
The WL 11 online Operation manual states that: “WaveLab Pro comes with two dithering plug-ins: Internal dithering and the Lin Pro Dither dithering.”
I can find and load the Lin Pro Dither (as well as any third party dither plug-ins). What confuses me is the mention of an ‘internal dither’ which supposedly differs from the Lin Pro Dither.
Just to be clear, I want to make sure that this internal dither (if it still exists in 11.2) isn’t active when I use the Pro-L 2 plug-in for dithering. I want to avoid having two dithering processes running at the same time by accident.
As long as you don’t specifically select the plugin, you should be fine. If it were active, you would notice its effects for example in the Bit Meter.
I can’t tell for WaveLab 11.2 anymore, but in WaveLab 12 the plugin is only available in the Master Section under Final Effects / Dithering.
Indeed, this seems to be an older specific plug-in that you still need to apply/insert if you want it.
PG is the expert since he designed it but I wouldn’t expect WaveLab to apply any automatic or invisible dither anywhere in the process unless you ask for it.
Thank you all for the clarification — it’s amazing how quickly you get help on the WL forum!
It seems as if my version of WL does not have this Internal Dither plug-in after all:
