Hi guys,
The title says it all really; I’m trying to run HALion Sonic 7 in a VST host (long and boring story) but for the life of me I can’t locate the .DLL file for the host software; I’ve looked in all the usual places but to no avail.
Could some kind soul possibly point me in the right direction?
Much obliged
George
Hi George,
since HALion (Sonic) 7 comes as a VST3 plugin, the filename suffix of the DLL is .vst3
instead of .dll
. On Windows it’s located in C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3\Steinberg\HALion Sonic.vst3\Contents\x86_64-win
.
If your VST host doesn’t detect the plugin automatically and you have to select the DLL explicitly, it’s probably the one present in this directory. In case you can’t select it because the host expects a file with the extension .dll
, it probably only supports VST2 plugins.
Hope this helps,
Martin

Hi Martin,
Well that explains it then; I’d already located the .VST3 file, I assumed I just wasn’t being thourough enough in my search. I’m guessing the host in question only supports VST2 plugins.
Thanks for the speedy reply Martin!

There is no DLL, because there is no VST3 plug-in. If you need VST2 compatibility, stay on HALion 6. I’m not sure how viable it is to have 6 and 7 installed side-by-side. If that is possible, then that it also an option. You just won’t be able to use things that require v7.
