I’ve downloaded almost 15 GB of libraries for Dorico by now, but honestly I only need a simple playback option to check what I’ve written.
It doesn’t need to sound especially realistic or high quality — I mainly want to hear whether the notes and harmonies work correctly.
Do you have any recommendations for which library or playback setup is sufficient while using as little storage space as possible?
If you are willing to pay a little extra, Noteperformer is a great alternative. (for classical music mostly) Only uses about 1GB of space.
I only use Noteperformer so can’t really say something about the included sounds.
If you want to stick with the bundled sounds, Halion Sonic Selection and Halion Sonic Factory content (3.35GB) is all you need (though the sounds are very basic).
You can remove the others using Steinberg Library Manager.
