Who invented to put quarter note on shortcut 6 etc? whole note should be 1, half note = 2 etc

Depends on whether it is pre or post the changes, however.

What?! A government regulation that leads to obfuscation and confusion? Iā€™m shocked! :astonished:

This is one of the strangest threads that I have read since I joined the forum

I have always rekeyed to use 1=whole, 2=half, etc. I use the 3 for triplet. 7=32nd.

And if you not a bumbling keyboard player such as I.

It doesnā€™t really matter hugely which number keys do what - the key thing is to learn them. All the different design decisions have their merits, but they can all be worked with quite comfortably with enough practice.

Thereā€™s often a conflict between the needs of experts and of beginners.

Dude, you are funny! How do I teach the people in my band new original tunes?

Sure, itā€™s possible to be a musician and not be able to read music, but thatā€™s still a form of illiteracy, just like if you had to have a text read aloud to you in order to be able to declaim it. Despite what you might think, thereā€™ll always be a need for being able to read both music notation and the written word.
