I have always rekeyed to use 1=whole, 2=half, etc. I use the 3 for triplet. 7=32nd.
And if you not a bumbling keyboard player such as I.
It doesnāt really matter hugely which number keys do what - the key thing is to learn them. All the different design decisions have their merits, but they can all be worked with quite comfortably with enough practice.
Thereās often a conflict between the needs of experts and of beginners.

Sure, itās possible to be a musician and not be able to read music, but thatās still a form of illiteracy, just like if you had to have a text read aloud to you in order to be able to declaim it. Despite what you might think, thereāll always be a need for being able to read both music notation and the written word.
