There’s an option in Notation Options to only show the barline between staves, which is nice for early music. However, when a whole note is tied across a barline, it is still broken into half notes, and I’d like the option to display a whole note instead. Is there an easy solution for this?
Solution: use hidden tuplets and remove rests (or shrink them to 1%). A 2:1h tuplet on your whole note should work. Then, select the tuplet and use the appropriate properties to make both the bracket and the ratio disappear.
You can also use a 1:1 tuplet. This has the advantage that tuplets can cross barlines, so you can both display and play back the correct note value and not have to deal with an extra rest. In Properties just turn on “Spans barline” and hide the number.
Unfortunately, I don’t quit get, how do it precisely. Can you elaborate more on that?
This is how it looks in my test:
I used a 1:1 semibreve (whole note in AE) tumplet, but it’s still a tied note. What am I not getting?
Looks like you’re only missing the “Spans barline” switch. Select the tuplet.
Of course you’re right, because I’m a total idiot, sitting in front of my computer, completely inattentive and mentally deranged! Man, I could bite into the tabletop…!
