Why am I getting this Strange result when recording MIDI?

This is probably a basic error, but it seems very odd. i am currently easing myself back into Cubase after many years.

it’s a simple MIDI recording, Using Opus HollyWood Strings - which respons to CC1 and CC11.
The result:
Acrtivity seen in the event in the Project Zone.
Automation tracks revealed by Cubase show numerical changes in tracklist (the two small circles).
No activity show in the automation tracks until the end of the four bars.

In teh Key editor 2 lines for both CC1 and CC11?

What might I be doing wrong here?

Hi,

Because you are combining the plain MIDI CC data with the automation of the MIDI CC. I would recommend using either plain MIDI CC or the automation.

This is unintentional Martin, how could I undo this setting? Where might I look?

Hi,

In MIDI > CC Automation Setup… You can choose, if you want, to record MIDI CCs as plain MIDI data or as an automation. The default settings are:

  • Record Destination on conflict: MIDI Part
  • Automation Merge Mode: Average

If you are in the situation already, unfortunately, there is no simple way to convert the automation to the MIDI CCs. You can only do the MIDI > Functions > Extract MIDI Automation. This converts the plain MIDI CCs to the automation curves.

Looking for a simple life here. Just require standard settings. The track is merely a test

Then don’t engage the Write status for the lanes in the project window. In that case Cubase will only record pure midi data.

Thank you people. I found this: Not the first time down this rabbit hole for me.
