Why are my chords written in multiple systems?

I’m writing for choral SAB, and I’m writing chords. They’ve always, as they should, been placed automatically above the upper system, soprano, but in this score, chord symbols are appearing also above the lowest system. Why?? No score would ever want this? How can I disable this thing, which I assume is a bug?

You need to provide more info. The file would be ideal.

Perhaps you added an upright bass instead of a bass singer. But that’s a guess without more information.

I’m not sure if this is what you mean… I created a new score from template “SAB with piano”. If I enter a chord on the first bar of the soprano, it appears there and above the piano. It does look a little odd in a full score, but I suppose it would be logical if separate parts were printed.

If you enter a chord into the staff of a player that hasn’t been set to show chord symbols, it will create one there and then allow chord symbols to be shown in that player.

If you don’t want chord symbols to appear in a staff then you just need to place them in a staff that you do want them in.

I guess the desired behavior is found in Layout Options > Chord Symbols and Diagrams:

If you select “[Above top staff of system]” and then add a chord to Soprano, it appears only above Soprano. (I learned something.)

By default a piano is considered a rhythm instrument and so gets the Chord Symbols. (Don’t ask me why either of those make sense).

If you change that option in Library>Instruments… the chord symbols will disappear.

I kind of like having the chord symbols on piano (for the things I work on). But everyone’s needs are different. I’m glad there is/are option(s) to control it.

This was the right answer, thanks a lot. Don’t know how people were getting that I’m writing for piano, I only said choral SAB.
