Why can't I input lyrics across multiple staves?

Why is it that when I select several staves, I can’t input lyrics into them all even though they’re the same rhythm? I can’t do it by either a) highlighting the notes and clicking shift+L for lyrics popover, or b) entering note input mode, clicking shift+down arrow (to extend the carrot across the staves), then shift+L for the lyrics.

Is there a better way to do this? Or is the only way to enter the lyrics on one staff and then copy and paste it to another?

You can select an entire passage and Filter All Lyrics, then either Copy to Staff Below (if the rhythms are identical) or (if the rhythms differ) copy the line of lyrics, open the Lyrics popover at the start of the next staff and paste them in syllable by syllable, using the spacebar for melismas.

It’s well worth assigning a keyboard shortcut to “Duplicate to Staff Above/Below”, as they are massively useful for everything – lyrics, dynamics, slurs, etc.

If you have just the lyrics selected (which you can do with the Filter, or by drag-selecting, if you’re careful), you can Alt-click them onto another staff.
