Why can't I move a whole rest to the center of the measure?

Hello,
I have been trying to move the first rest in the upper left first bar (see screen shot) to the center of the bar but have ben unsuccessful so far. I tried the “Force Position and Duration function,” but can not move the rest to the center. Is there another way to do this? And when I switch off the “Force Position and Duration function,” I then get two rests. Any help would be appreciated.

It should be as simple as selecting that rest and hitting Delete. That will replace your forced whole note (semibreve) rest with an implicit bar rest.

That is the only thing that I did not try. It worked! And now I feel foolish. LOL!
