Why do I have to reconnect with my audio interface every time I start Cubase?

Every day when I start Cubase after having booted my computer I have to reconnect to my audio interface. Am I missing something or is that the way it’s supposed to happen. In Dorico whenever I start it, it always finds the most recently used audio output device but for some reason Cubase doesn’t do that. Why doesn’t it look for the most recently used audio interface? I have only one so it’s the one that I always connect with and it’s always plugged in and on and recognized (the little MOTU M4 Audio Device Detected window pops up) before I start Cubase. Is there a setting somewhere I need to adjust?

Hi,

This has been discussed here on the forum a few times already.

No, this should not work like this. Unfortunately, it looks like MOTU Audio Devices are especially sensitive to this issue.

Is your MOTU the default sound device for your PC? In Windows I’m pretty sure the operating system doesn’t allow sharing of the default sound device in that way. So it prevents Cubase from connecting at launch because it’s not an available sound device. If you are using a PC they almost always have a built in soundcard. You typically can use headphones or a separate set of speakers running on the built-in soundcard and set that as Windows default sound output device. THEN your MOTU should be an available device for Cubase. If you are running OS/MAC you’ll need a response from someone familiar with that system.

I would disagree with this point - my RME AIO is set as the Default Device, and Cubase finds it every time.
However, your suggestion is worth trying.
Cubase may just be finicky (like the SDA).

Thank you for your suggestions. Yes, when my MOTU is plugged in it is the default sound output device for Windows. But when my MOTU is not plugged in the built-in soundcard is the default. I don’t want to permanently disable the built-in soundcard because there are times I want to use the notebook someplace other than where my MOTU interface is.
So I guess I just need to live with it. Not a big deal – I just wanted to know if there was something I was missing.
I did try to search for similar threads but I guess I didn’t use the proper search terms.
Thank you!
