Hello, with Dorico 6 yesterday I was at a rehearsal of a new orchestral piece of mine and learned that 4 bars of the flute part were missing. I hadn’t paid attention to this detail and don’t understand what has happened. I looked at posts that appear to deal with the same issue and have seemingly made things worse as now lots of notes have become inactive and have disappeared from the parts. HELP!!
You’ll need to supply us with specifics. Ideally, the Dorico file, so we can see what has happened.

Hi, I’m not sure to understand what exactly is missing, but for example, your part layout Flûtes 1 et 2 doesn’t actually display the Flûte 1.
Select the layout in Setup Mode, in the right column, and tick the Flûte 1 in the players column.
Then this layout will display both flutes!
As for the grey inactive notes, that’s because you use the Condensing feature. Switch to Galley View if you need to edit those notes.
If you don’t like the grey, you can go to View > Notes and rests colors, and click “Condensed music”. They will turn black (but will still be inactive in page view!)
They will anyway be black when you print or export in pdf.
Thanks a lot Charles. I’m still a relative newcomer to Dorico and not grounded enough to remember what might have gone wrong as I haven’t been using Dorico recently. For me both parts of the flûte were there but yes the problem must have come from the condensing as when there is no condensing I can see everything. back to the drawing board now to refresh my manual condensing skills as the flutes are often in unisson.
Not directly related to the question but I recommend to apply this setting in Layout-Options > Page Setup > Flow to all parts
![]()
However you have to insert a First Page template change on page 2 if there is a title page.
And if you want to start a flow always on a new page there is also a setting in the same section
And there is a lot of manual staff spacing and system breaks in the parts. It’s highly recommended to let Dorico do the job – this is not Finale – by adjusting the global staff spacing settings.
Many thanks for your Precious help ![]()
