Why is my percussion kit silent?

Follow up from ( How to hide "Percussion 1, Percussion 2, ..."? ).

Attached I have a Dorico 5 project with a percussion kit and a sample library I made with Decent Sampler. I gave the percussion kit 5 random instruments, as I think you have to choose 5 unique arbitrary instruments in order to list those names in your percussion map. (If there’s an easier way, let me know!) Currently, the output is silent. Can anyone figure out why so I know what I’m doing wrong for the future?

Update: I notice that my sample library is having its keys pressed, but not the ones I assigned in my percussion map. It’s always A0, so if I change my library to activate a sample at A0, then it plays. So the real fix is why is my percussion map not working?

Have you checked these preferences?

Figured it out!

  • Issue one: One of the instruments didn’t match exactly (“Cajon” vs “Cajon (High Tone)”)
  • Issue two: It was all down by an octave. So yeah, C3 vs C4 stuff.

IT WORKS NOW!!!

So the only question i have left is: when making a custom percussion kit, should you always use unique instruments so that your percussion map works?
