Why is the spectrometer displaying notes one octave below?

I was analyzing some recordings and noticed for 880hz Wavelab says this is an A4 when it should be A5.

I looked at the app preferences but couldn’t really find any setting that explained this shift.

There was a bug since a long time ago, (I remember since 2003) when you detect pitch in WL (find current pitch of audio selection) it provided value an octave lower.

Why is A3 440 Hz in WL?

This may have been something to do with Yamaha and Roland.

I always assumed that was about which note is used for middle C and not which frequencies reprensent each note.

Standard A4 is 440Hz, A4 in Cubase is 880Hz???

This was pointed out in a comment on one of my YouTube videos. I’ve never noticed but this person pointed out that even though standard tuning A4 is 440Hz, Cubase labels A4 as being one octave higher, at 880Hz. This is true for all EQ/channel windows, EQ plugins, and all VST instruments. I later discovered that other VST companies also refer to A4 as being 880Hz. Is this an error, a typo of sorts?
