Why is WL now saving a new montage inside a new folder in the folder i designate?

this just started the other week and it’s messing with my workflow.. but when i save a montage into my project folder of choice, WL creates a NEW folder, called system.mon, and puts it inside that folder.

not sure why this just started happening randomly. there hasn’t been any updates. and i can’t recall accidentally activating such functionality.

i know wavelab creates this system.mon folder, but it’s never automatically put my montage file into it.

anyone else experiencing this?

system.mon is a subfolder created for the montage. It contains other files used by the montage. The core montage file is outside that folder.
The recommended layout is this:

a “my_montage” folder, and inside it, my_montage.mon and the system.mon folder.

yeah, that’s how it always worked… but lately it’s been sticking my montage.mon folder inside the system.mon folder… not in my main project directory like i like it, and like it always has before.

MASTERING PROJECT

  • audio files
  • montage file
  • SYSTEM.MON
    —- backups, etc files.

is how it always used to be, but now it’s putting my montage file into that system folder for some reason

Well, create a montage from scratch, as below, and you should get what I previously described.

I was going to post what PG posted but in WaveLab 12, I get even a few more options when saving a new montage.

You may have to post a screen shot of what you’re seeing for anybody to help further but it seems there are a few options.

I prefer to always have the montage saved in the same folder as the source files which with this setting it does by default each time:

yes, justin.. i prefer to have the montage in the same folder as my audio files as well.. not in this SYSTEM.MON subfolder

i just created and saved a new montage and got this dialogue box.

every other option besides “Other” was greyed out. when i saved it, however, it DID save it correctly, not inside the system.mon folder.

but the montage i made for the album i worked on this morning, it DID save it inside the system.mon folder and i had to move it out.

same with a few montages i made earlier in the week.

just strange that sometimes it saves where i want it to (root level of my project folder) and sometimes it puts it inside the system.mon folder.

i’ll pay more attention to my save dialog boxes in the coming days. but over the years and the probably thousands of montages i’ve created i’ve never had this problem.. until a couple weeks ago.

It seems that options are greyed out when there are no associated files in the montage yet.

Once I load in some files, then the 3 options in my screen shot are there.

I can’t remember exactly what the Append Audio Montage Name does but I always have that off too.

ah, yeah, that could be. anyway. obviously not a huge deal, ‘cos i just pull it out, but just strange that it started happening out of the blue. 95% chance it’s user error, but, can’t imagine how i would save anything differently than i have the last few years.. unless some checkbox got accidentally checked at some point and left by default.

i’ll just keep an eye on it and see if i can determine when/why it saves it inside the system.mon folder.

thanks for the replies and help

No problem. Probably a user setting that was unintentionally changed.

turns out it was indeed the “append audio montage name” check box. if that remains checked, it creates a path and a new folder for me.. if i uncheck it, it stores it precisely where i want it.

at some point over the last weeks i must have accidentally checked that.. and it’s stayed on.

thanks for pointing that out!
