Why not develop IC Pro or Avid Control?

I can understand why SB-Yamaha discontinued the Yamaha Nuage, even though it’s incredibly sad. I can understand why SB-Yamaha isn’t stepping in to produce a quality replacement. Despite Yamaha, SB isn’t Avid.

BUT I don’t understand why Nuendo (and Cubase) users and buyers are being left in the lurch when it comes to software control via iPad. Nuendo’s default configuration on Avid Control, where everything is a jumbled mess with no proper organization, is abominable. As for shortcuts, I turned to IC Pro, unable to believe that this utility had truly been abandoned. Now I believe it: it’s horrible. But why on earth doesn’t SB take care of IC Pro or offer a replacement worthy of Nuendo’s quality?

And if SB-Yamaha is giving up on Avid Control, why not offer a bank that’s truly integrated with Nuendo? Why this neglect, when DAW control is so important? It’s so obvious that even the announcement for Nuendo 15 features Yamaha Nuage (which, by the way, is a strange inconsistency). Nuendo has great qualities, one of which is the ability to be controlled without AVID-style hardware. So why not push in that direction?

IC Pro has been updated at least twice in recent time. However, the app’s functionality is rather rudimentary. I think that’s by design. IC Pro’s main forte is remote controlling while tracking. Basic transport functions, cue mixes and key commands. Easy to set up and to use. That’s about it.
Post pro workflows in Nuendo require different skill sets and I am not sure if IC Pro is designed to cover these tasks in the first place.

I would understand if you had called IC Pro neglected, but to call it abandoned 13 days after last medium update and 3 days after the last minor update doesn’t seem right to me.

In all other aspects I can very much agree with you.

You’re right, IC Pro isn’t enough. I wasn’t aware of the updates (I must be up to date without even knowing it). In any case, one thing is clear: IC Pro could be ten times better. I think you’ll agree with me.

P.S. Just one quick thing: the titles of the keyboard shortcuts often don’t even fit within the rectangular space allocated to them. Great engineering…

You’re right, I didn’t know. It’s just that I’m still amazed by how neglected it all seems, whether those issues have been addressed or not. SB is clearly just doing the bare minimum. I think it’s a missed opportunity, given that this tool could be so important.

Yes, absolutly. IC Pro could be on another level and there are a lot of features I’d love to have. Coming back to your original question - we don’t really know what role IC Pro is supposed to play in the overall Steinberg picture. At the end of the day it’s a strategic decision which is up to Steinberg alone. So, your guess is as good as mine.

I purchased IC Pro just recently and truth be told - I wasn’t even sure if it would work at all. I was pleasantly surprised that it just took a couple of clicks and minutes to have everything up and running on my Android tablet. No glitches, latency issues, nothing. Yeah, very basic but rock solid and it does the job well with regard to basic tracking tasks. Good job! So, kudos for that and also respect to @LSlowak for the way they are interacting with users :+1:

I do see a lot of potential for IC Pro, too @Mute

I think they should focus on Eucontrol.

Since neither Steinberg nor Yamaha are is to come out with a professional controller any time soon and with Nuage discontinued the Avid s-series is the only thing left. Therefore, if there has to be a choice between the two I’d pick Eucon devices 100% of the time…

Unless there are things on the horizon that puts other controllers + IC Pro on par with Eucon. Though I doubt it.

It is indeed easy to program. But according to crash reports, IC Pro causes Nuendo 15 to crash on startup (not always, but often). I’ve removed it for now.

Under the circumstances, I’m all for Eucontrol—it’s a great tool. However, it needs some work. I’ve just come back from a year working with Pro Tools, and it’s clear that no one at SB is taking the time to create clear lists of functions so we can easily navigate Eucontrol based on Nuendo’s menus. It’s all thrown together haphazardly—figure it out for yourselves! I believe that a serious overhaul of the Nuendo (and Cubase) Eucontrol XML file would strengthen Nuendo itself, which would benefit SB (and us, the users).

On the other hand, I wonder if it might be possible for users who have gone down this path to share their work (like the Reaper community)? It wouldn’t be useful to me, since I work with the French version (I think we’re a small minority in that case), but it would make sense.

Yeah, I mean I think that makes some amount of sense. I’ve set up maybe 3-4 pages of custom collections of soft-key commands and macros, but I also think that we all work slightly differently so whatever logic works for me is not necessarily one that works for other people. At the end of the day I think a lot of people would just start modifying “preset” pages and at that point it might actually be easier to just set it up yourself from scratch.

A good point though.
