Why over-compact spacing in one half bar?

I have my notes spacing quite tight (crochet 3.5 ) so that this piece of music doesn’t flow onto far too many pages. But why is bar 95 too tight when everything else is fine?

Have I unintentionally made an engrave mode change?

I keep away from changes in Engrave mode as much as possible come because I am so lazy I want Dorico to do everything for me … (please :person_in_bed:)

  1. **What’s the easiest way of making a local change **
  2. Why do I need to make a local change ?

Question 2 is ‘optional’ but I remain curious.
Sonata 6 - The Hurdygurdy II - Brock’s Magic.dorico (1.4 MB)

It seems like Dorico fumbled this one. I can’t tell why.

Easiest fix: select the voice column and press Cmd-Opt-right arrow once to increase the space before the selection.

I think it’s happening because of the syncopation. In many cases Dorico can only avoid collisions between spacing columns that are directly adjacent. In this case the down-stem note has its own spacing column in between those of the two up-stem chords.

thank you both, as always, for your quick replies.

Dorico normally does a great job of setting my stuff out… leaving me to concentrate on the music.
