Why render give nothing?

Revisiting a project, I found that the audio bass sound that was derived from Bass soft synth PK2 midi was the wrong sound. It’s happened before when I’ve come to a project and found that for some reason, though the right sound is in the inspector (soft synth) a different sound plays. Nothing else in the list manager, but changing away from the desired sound to something else and back corrects it. But I hadn’t noticed the changed sound till now listening to the audio. This was all done in C13 or earlier.
So went back to the correct midi soft synth, created an instrument track and copied the event there and then verified that the instrument still plays that correct sound and then went to render in place. Multiple times, I’ve tried and each time after 7 minutes of it going through the whole song in real time, I come up with empty stereo track. So what could be wrong that I got to such a point in C13 and now in C15?

I am just guessing, but a potential solution would be to make sure you have your locators set for the beginning to the end of the song. If you haven’t set your locators, that may be the issue…

I came back to this today. Locators are set. What seems strange though, is that the midi channel that plays the soft synth on the PK2 shows the blue vertical bar activity when played.

The derived instrument track, though it plays the same sound to the PK2, (while the above midi channel is muted), shows no activity. So it plays right, I hear it, but no activity. Is that strange and suspect?

Figured it out. Though it was set to go to the PK2 and that played, when I looked in external instruments that had no connection. though I just set it to mono, it still came out stereo though. Better than no-thing though.
