Why when I zoom in does it jump?

Why when I zoom in on a page does the whole thing jump 30 Bars?

It jumps to whatever was selected.

Not every time. And even if it does, why does it jump?

@dspreadbury is this some sort of bug?

Hi @Abraham.H, can you upload a Dorico project where this happens, describing in detail the steps that you do that cause the jumping, if the issue is reproducible?

i have experienced this behavior quite a few times - my thought is that it has something to do with, in my case, the trackpad on my MBP. it is very random - if something is selected it’s easy enough to “Recenter selection” and find your way. But if there is no selection and the page zooms after changing layouts one is essentially tossed back to the beginning of the project (not just the beginning of the flow)

It does the same thing when I save. If I have scrolled to a different location in a document, but something is still highlighted in the previous location, when I hit save, Dorico recenters on the highlighted element. Kinda frustrating as I sometimes (frequently!) forget to unhighlight and element.

This seems to happen randomly to me, as well.

The only way I’ve been able to mitigate the effect is to have a quick-key to “center selection”, and always select something whenever I’m going to change any sort of view, whether it’s size, or layout.

But it IS annoying.
It would be nice to be examining the flute part, at measure 250, then switching back to the full score and still be at measure 250.

In a condensed score it can get a bit frustrating since you can’t select anything from a condensed staff. meaning you have to hunt up and down that page looking for something that is alone on its staff.

I have to agree. The weird “jumping” behavior has been my experience with Dorico through several versions now. It would be great if this were solved at some point.

Not disagreeing, but how does Dorico “know” you are examining measure 250?

if I’m in Galley view, and have notes from flute 1 selected, from measure 250, then switch back to page view, where the two flute parts are now consolidated, Dorico SHOULD know that I was at that point, and not send me back to page 1 of the score, which could be 100 pages long.

It’s probably related to the reality that you cannot select an item on a condensed stave at bar 250.
I agree, it’s not ideal

as I posted above, I know you can’t select anything from a condensed staff.
however, tossing you back to the beginning of a score really gets tedious.
there needs to be SOME sort of fix for this.
it’s not game-breaking, but it’s annoying.

@dspreadbury is this a bug or is it on purpose for some sort of reason?

Please don’t repeatedly tag me in a thread. I’ll get to it when I can.

It sounds like a bug to me, but you’ll need to provide me with some more details to allow me to investigate the problem. Can you please attach a project that reproduces the problem, together with the steps required to reproduce the jump?

Sorry, I forgot that I already tagged you.

Also it happens randomly so the next time it happens I’ll try to remember what happened and how it happened.

Thank you.
