Will Dorico ever allow cut out scores in future udpates?

I’m not a person who makes heavy cut out scores, but sometimes I create as such.

s I transition from finale, will something like this ever be possible to do in Dorico, as I was told Dorico does not allow “cut out” scores.

I hope still, that Dorico currently can still make aleotoric boxes with lines/arrows?

See the last link of my previous post

Here the video mentioned there:

Yes I have watched this, but it seems Dorico does not let you make boxes smaller vertically, or am I wrong?

Every box is made of two lines (one on top, and one on bottom of the staff), that have each a start and an end hook as line annotation integrates into them. You can make the hooks shorter in the line annotation dialogue (maybe you save a duplicate and call it “aleatoric shorter hooks”), and then use these lines, and then move the top and bottom parts of the box nearer, as desired, in Engrave Mode (or just reduce the Distance from Staff Line in the Dialogue).

Something that in the Video is not mentioned: If you click on the star icon on the bottom left part of the dialogues, you can save every of these lines and lines annotation as default, to have them appear in the lines panel in all future projects.

Not at the moment, but soon (see Daniel Spreadbury’s answer here)

Cut away coming soon

I have a bet that Dorico 6 will be released on April 1st 2025. :mage:

To be clear, this is Daniel’s answer:

The developers generally do not disclose what they have been working on until an update is imminent, if at all. I understand that you’re hopeful (to be honest, so am I) but nowhere in this carefully worded statement does Daniel imply that cutaway scores are coming soon.

Well, you just have to be able to read between the lines !
And, I have confirmation from the M.I.5 !

I use this in tandem with the suggestions in the video shared above by Christian, because there are aspects about it which I find a little quicker and easier to set up, once you learn the syntax. And from the video I use the suggestions mostly about the lines etc.

I look forward to native and officially designed support for aleatoric and cut away scores – I know the team hears about this one a lot so I look forward to whatever they cook up! :cook::notes:

Frame notation and cutaway scores are independent and orthogonal. It is true that both types of notation will often be used in the same score, but from the point of view of designing and implementing them, they are completely separate functional areas with little overlap. Both will require significant effort to implement to the standard we always aim to attain. So you should not expect both to appear in the same release.
