Window focus driving me crazy

I’m using two screens, and I regularly go from the mixer to the project window when recording, and the focus is driving me crazy, if I move the faders in the mixer window for example and press record, and then press delete if I make a mistake, the focus remains on the mixer window so I have to click again in the project window to bring focus before deleting- and vice versa… how do you guys go about this? It gets me frustrated very fast

Using Key Commands and Macros.

The more video displays you use, the more issues you will have until you manage focus issues. There are Key Commands for Bring to Front, and Key commands for the 4 separate mix consoles. The same applies to all edit windows.

There are also Windows commands that cycle through different windows using alt+tab, but I have never found those very useful due to having many Cubase windows open on 4 displays plus the fact that some Cubase windows do not get included with Alt+tab.

yes, Bring To Front, I use that one a lot

I’m sure there some software out there that could track your eyes to know which window to focus based on which monitor you’re looking at…

Personally, I just get frustrated. A lot.

Even worse (for me) is the case where working in the project window with a lower zone, typically the key editor, where things get mixed up when I do some minor thing in one zone and don’t remember that I need to do something in the other zone before I do some keystroke-based operation that has a different context in the window I’m thinking I’m in at the time.

But I also do use two displays, one with the MixConsole on it pretty much all the time (though sometimes the Marker window or some other window may be overlaying it), and the project window, possibly a full-screen Key Editor, possibly a full screen ARA editor (e.g. Melodyne), or whatever on my main screen. Probably my most common glitch is when I’ve mostly been working in the project window, but go tweak a plugin or fader in the MixConsole, then use “G” or “H”, wanting to zoom out or in horizontally on the project window but find the MixConsole strips narrowing or widening instead. :frowning:

Stream Deck = less mouse and computer keyboard dependency to operate and move around Cubase.

Using Generic Remote commands you can set up buttons on Stream Deck to set the focus for the project window, the lower zone, any of 4 mixer windows, and have buttons for delete, record, transport controls, faders (if you wish), or basically anything to meet your specific needs on one page, or multiple pages, of buttons. Additionally, you can control zoom, visibility of tracks, track type, connected tracks, and mixer tools etc one the same page if you wish.

Work flow control using Stream Deck is almost only limited by imagination and available Cubase commands, which are pretty comprehensive!

I use a controller using midi for those functions. That way it doesn’t matter what has focus.

I will look at the streamdecks for sure thanks guys

I use Touch Portal (cheaper than Stream deck), anyway I wouldnt use 2 screens while recording, I´ve set a workspace with project windows and mixer in lower zone, then you can assign another workspace with your 2 screen setup and when you finish recording you switch views with keycommands assigned to workspaces.

I have 4 or 5 workspaces and almost never use zoom or have to switch between views just switch workspaces. You can hide right and left zones, etc etc

Try using Ctrl + Tab instead.
On Windows Ctrl + Tab is supposed to switch between windows of the same application.

Oops…yes.

If you are going to look at any Stream Decks then also consider Metagrid and learn the advantages disadvantages of each.

There are users of both plus a recent topic in another forum specifically about the differences who can give this information.
