Cubase latest version
When opening a sampler or drum machine by right-clicking, the Cubase GUI freezes violently, and Windows itself slows down. Every mouse movement takes a few seconds to appear, like slow motion. When opening the Task Manager, there’s no increased CPU usage; everything shows at average load. However, the CompatTelRunner.exe process appears, consuming 16% of the CPU. GPU usage is around 5-8%, but everything is at a minimum. It becomes unusable until I reboot. Even closing Cubase and forcefully deleting the CompatTelRunner.exe process in the Task Manager doesn’t help. This is apparently related to Windows telemetry, and only after I disabled it through the Task Scheduler and Registry Editor did this behavior stop slowing down the GUI when opening the sampler and drum machine. Could it also be related to the NVIDIA drivers? How can I figure out what the problem might be?
The system isn’t new.

The same thing happened initially on Windows 11 25H2; I reinstalled it on a previous Windows build.

(My suspicion of the culprit.) 8 GB of RAM is exceedingly small for most any DAW-type uses nowadays. Odds are opening certain modules or plugins adds to the memory overhead needed at that time, and you get into paging activity, where memory has to swap data out to disk temporarily because it is full. If enough of this activity keeps happening, then everything slows to a crawl.
Suggestion: Before trying this the next time, open up Task Manager’s performance tab and the memory tab within that. See where things stand (probably tight already. Just to give any idea, here is what my tab looks like at the moment – no Cubase running, just Outlook and Edge plus normal Windows background stuff:
It’s showing 12.4 GB in use, which is already more than the total 8 GB you have on your system. I have 64 GB total, so that’s no big deal on my system, and it might be that having plenty of leeway (and a very fast modern CPU) lets more things go on in the background than would happen on a smaller memory configuration.
Then, while watching this display, see what happens when you open up one of the modules that causes the issue. My guess is that things are already on the edge with respect to your memory configuration, and adding even something small to that takes it over the top.
Memory usage is within normal limits, showing 50%, or 4 GB. Windows 11 currently uses RAM as a percentage of its maximum. The larger the memory, the higher the memory usage figure in GB, but the percentage is roughly the same. My Cubase project is also nearly empty; this happens even when loading just one sampler, but not immediately, after some time.
