Windows 8.1 pro bitlocker

Hi,

Is there any reason why computer musicians shouldn’t enable the built in bitlocker drive encryption built into Windows 8.1 pro? From a drive performance perspective?

Thanks in advance

If it isn’t hardware-based, it is done in software, which means that it uses up CPU. Whether it is enough to make a difference, I don’t know. Windows 8.x basically improved a lot of system facilities to have less performance impact.

Many of the latest SSDs have 256bit AES encryption support, but I also don’t know whether that affects their performance, nor whether the Windows encryption can take advantage of it.

It is a bit of a fiddle just to try it out to see what difference it makes, but we would probably like to know, and I doubt whether any of us would object to you being a guinea pig for the rest of us!
