I’m a recent convert to Dorico. Below are some things on my wish list that don’t fit into the categories of my other recent threads . Some of these may be things that others have suggested as well; some may also be things that Dorico already has but I haven’t found yet – please feel free to point them out to me if that’s the case.
- Add File > Revert to Saved. There’s been discussion about this in other threads, like here, along with improvements to the Undo History dialog that could help.
- Unified convention for buttons in dialogs. Some dialogs have “Apply” and “Close”, some have “OK” and “Cancel”, and some have “Apply and Close” and “Close”. In my opinion, the most useful is probably “Apply”, “OK”, and “Cancel”, where “Apply” lets you immediately see the effects of your change without closing the dialog, “OK” applies all changes and closes the dialog, and “Cancel” closes the dialog without applying any pending changes. Alternately, this could be “Preview” instead of “Apply”, to see your changes without committing them. This third button could be omitted if it’s not relevant to a dialog (like choosing a playback template).
- Bookmarks. It would be nice to be able to mark a measure in such a way that I can use the jump bar to go there, without needing to remember the bar number or rehearsal mark number. The bookmark would have a label that could be used in the jump bar.
- The ability for the jump bar to jump to a different layout, with an autocomplete dropdown for layout names like the ones in the cue and playing technique popovers. Bonus points: jump directly to a specific bar/page/rehearsal mark within a different layout.
- It would be nice to be able to manage instrument filters from the bottom toolbar instead of/in addition to the overlay. This is just a question of keeping the score area free of clutter.
- Change to a “wait” cursor while saving is in progress, since this operation can take a few seconds and the UI is unresponsive during that time.
