I made the switch from Finale three weeks ago, and I’m delighted. It’s a pleasure to work with a piece of software that is so powerful and so thoughtfully designed. My only regret now is that I didn’t switch earlier!
I have also been keeping a running wish list of things I’d love to see added. In some cases, there are things that others have suggested as well; some of them may also be things that Dorico already has but I haven’t found yet.
Is it better for me to put all of these (~20) into this thread, or should I start a new thread for each one?
Great to hear that you’re enjoying the switch so far!, @asherber !
You could put them all into one thread, but you could also group them by theme (eg if five all relate to dynamics, that would make sense to put together)
That way, the thread title can be closely tied to exactly what you’re posting about, making it easier to track and share the thread later.
This is on my wish list – barline flexibility. In Finale one can have barlines through staves, on staves, or between staves. In Dorico (unless I am missing something) this is dictated by the instruments. For instance, if I am writing for SATB but want to use woodwinds instead of voices, the barlines are through the staves, which is not what I want for choral music. Yes, I can solve that by using a VST but I would appreciate an easier way.
@asherber, while you’re at it, it might be a good idea to add the Dorico version and edition tags and also the feature-request tag to your posts. A small thing, but I find that seeing those in the feed and when searching later can be helpful.
