WL12: Cannot change standard fades in montage

Hi,
I’m unable to set a new standard shape and/or time for fades. The standard stays at 20 ms linear. OS is Windows 10. Can anybody confirm this?

EDIT: It works when I use Wavelab with elevated user privileges, so it seems like the installer has not set the access rights correctly.

Nils

I have a similar issue with Wavelab Pro 12.0.10 on an iMac M1 (2021).

Choosing the following two options in the Presets pop-up menu in the Fade tab, don’t seem to have any effect:
• Save Current Fade as Default for Automatic Fade-Outs
• Save as Default for Automatic Crossfades

Changing the Default Fade/Crossfade in Preferences>Global>Audio and trying different locations for the settings in Preferences>Global>General don’t make any difference either.

No matter what I do, the default fade is stuck at 20 ms.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Best,
Lars

Your screen shot shows that you are using as setting location “Common for All Users”. This is not recommended option, unless you know what you are doing and have the access privileges. Is that the case?

I have changed the setting location to “Independent for Each User”, but the default fade is still stuck at 20 ms. I wonder if there is something wrong with the access privileges of the Steinberg folder in my Library. So would a completely clean install of Wavelab Pro be a solution?

Maybe the problem is elsewhere.
For example, your second screenshot, that I reproduce below, has nothing to see with the montage fade. Hence this might point to a misunderstanding.

What you have to do, is to have an active clip, set the desired fade, then call the function “Save Current Fade as Default for Automatic Fade-lns”. That will determine the default fade time.

Thanks for the clarification. However, if I do exactly as you describe (set the desired fade, then call the function “Save Current Fade as Default for Automatic Fade-lns”) the fade-in is still stuck at 20 ms, both when splitting and creating new clips.
I have also tried a complety clean install, albeit without any change in this behaviour.

In fact, this setting is saved per audio montage. Hence, it will work on the montage you save the setting, to.
By using montage templates, you could have this setting ready in new montages.

Now, I agree that it is questionable that this setting is not global to all montages.

Thanks, I will experiment with the montage templates, then. However, I have just installed Wavelab Pro 11.2, and here everything works as expected. I have noticed, that when I save the current fade as default in this version of Wavelab, it asks for confirmation that I want to change the setting. This doesn’t happen in Wavelab 12. Is this intended?

Still the same issue when saving and re-opening the montage.

Here are my steps:

  1. New montage
  2. Import audio clip and making it active
  3. Set fade-in to 10 ms (in the Fade tab)
  4. Select “Save Current Fade as Default for Automatic Fade-Ins” in the Presets pop-up menu.
(The audio clip is still active, but I am NOT asked for confirmation of the setting change.)
  5. Save montage
  6. Re-open montage.
  7. Make new clips by copying audio range.
  8. Fade-in is still fixed at 20 ms (and not 10 ms as expected.)

It is strange that the same procedure works perfectly in Wavelab 11.2.
Would it be possible to copy the particular file with the fade settings from the WL 11.2 preferences to the WL 12 preferences?

Hi!

Be aware of making selection in “Fade” Tab and save, make adjustment
and go back to Audio Montage sometimes I have found I think I’m in/at
the Audio Montage but I’m still in “Fade” Tab and settings I made doesn’t take,
maybe this works with shortcuts but I haven’t tried this…

It works here. If your montage file is called test.mon, then the setting file is saved in the relative folder system.mon/test.anc

Maybe a particular procedure you follow does not cause this. But in that case, only a video demo would allow to track your exact steps.

Here is a small video showing the problem.

I have located the setting file with the .anc suffix. I can see that this file is updated when I save and close the montage.

I think it is working now. As you will see in the video posted earlier, there is no confirmation box appearing after selecting “Save Current Fade as Default for Automatic Fade-Ins” in the Presets pop-up menu. After experimenting with another montage, voila, suddenly the confirmation box appeared. More importantly, the fade settings now work as expected!

Furthermore, I am now able to consistently reproduce both the problem and the solution.

Problem: If I change the fade settings in a montage and then select “Save Current Fade as Default for Automatic Fade-Ins” in the Presets pop-up menu, the box asking for confirmation of this change doesn’t show up.

Solution: Next, if I briefly switch focus to another montage and then go back again to the first, the confirmation box appears reliably each time I want to change the default automatic fade-ins.

Lars
