WL13 Feature request - Storing converted montage new location

Hi PG!

Just started using WL13 and it looks good… but I have a question/proposal.

When opening an old WL12 montage WL automatically creates and stores a new version of the montage as a new WL-montage with added suffix .v13 in the same folder… as usual with new versions.

I always create a new folder structure for new WL versions in order to totally separate montages for old and new versions.

  • So would it be possible to add an option for storing the new WL13 montage in a new location/folder instead of the old one!?!
  • And even better would be able to NOT add the .v13 suffix when using this option, as it is no longer needed in order to separate the old and new montage?

I know it is kind of an initial and temporary thing with a new version….but when/if you are working with a lot of montages it would really simplify the transition to the new version.
It would in my case anyway…

The current way is very safe and fast.
What you can do is the following: from the Process Ribbon tab, use the Backup function to create a new montage folder, fully independent and named as you like.

Hi!

Thank you for the reply PG.

But using the Backup function will mean that also all the audio files used in the various montages are copied to new location…. am I not right?
I haven’t yet used that function so I am not sure about how it works…but it looks like it.

I keep all my audio/mix files separate in one folder structure, and then montages and projects in their own separate structures referencing each other.
So I don’t want to copy any audio files.

But I will do the migration from Wl12 to WL13 manually as I did from WL11 to WL12.
That will work ok …

Hi again!

Just one more comment/thought regarding this.

During migration from WL12 to WL13 I want to create new separate instances of projects
if I for any reason would like to open a project in WL12 again later.

And as there currently is no “Save as…” function for projects, the only solution is to copy the project beforehand and then open and convert montages to WL13 if I want to have separate projects for WL12 and WL13.

I know you can save a New version… but that just adds an incremental number and also saves project in the same folder, so a “Save as…” function for projects would very useful and be much appreciated.

I also described this earlier in this post: https://forums.steinberg.net/t/wl12-saving-project/894243
