Even though this Blog post about Dorico by the amazing pianist/composer Timo Andres is a few years old, it’s well worth re-reading. Some real musical insights into the nature of software, how we think, why Dorico is the future, etc.
I had the opportunity to meet and chat with him last year while backstage for an appearance he had with the Maryland Symphony, and talked to him about his composing processes and thoughts.
Here, he shares how he grew up in the software world (Sibelius) and how Dorico has taken the art of composing with notation software to the next level.
He’s one of today’s best all around musicians for sure, even though not quite a household name. But he’s incredibly well-respected by anyone who’s heard him or know him!
Thanks for reading. I stand by everything in it! Most of the missing features I mentioned have since been implemented, quite brilliantly. And it’s still sluggish as hell. But good things take time.
