Woodwind Quintet Layout

When I set up a woodwind quintet, the layout came out like this:

  1. Is there a way to group the horn with the woodwinds instead of having separated like this?
  2. I have seen scores where the horn is above the bassoon? Do you consider that standard?

When I dragged the horn above the bassoon in Setup, both were separated from the other instruments.

Try changing Library->Layout Options->Brackets and Braces to Small Ensemble.

Definitely. I have played a lot of WW5, and I can’t recall encountering a professional score in any other order. (No point in treating the horn as a brass section of its own.)

Excellent, guys. I did not see this template. Can I convert to this template? If not, I will just copy the music.

You should be able to start a new project with that template, and then use File > Import > Flows to bring your existing music into the new project.

FYI, on Thursday night I promised I would compose a wind quintet by Sunday night. I had a lunch date Friday, a symphony performance Friday night, and a birthday party Sunday, but I think I will make it. I am about 75% finished as of Friday afternoon!
