Varifocal Stereo Funk Optics!!!

Joo Janta 2000 Super Chromatic Peril-Sensitive Sunglasses

One thing doctors and musicians have in common. Terrible handwriting.

Steve wrote “my brand new tri-focal progressive lense glasses”

Of course, I immediately recalled “I am a 1954 Studebaker Coupe” I KNEW Steve’s phrase would make good lyrics to a King Crimson song …

But when I read John’s “Joo Janta 2000 Super Chromatic Peril-Sensitive Sunglasses”, I KNEW that the King Crimson who could write this song does not yet exist. In fact, if we knew Fripp’s username on this forum and PMd him, I reckon he’d say ‘No’.

What got me about Monk’s writing, was that he was covering so many aspects, much like I see in Steve’s work … multi faceted explorations.

Hang on … I’m going to see if I can ENHANCE that image of Monk’s writing …

STEVE … I’ve altered the original attachment …

Does this make it any more readable?

T.MONK’S ADVICE (1960) (?)
JUST BECAUSE YOU’RE NOT A > DRUMMER> , DOESN’T MEAN THAT YOU
DON’T HAVE TO > KEEP TIME
PAT YOUR FOOT AND SING THE MELODY IN YOUR HEAD, WHEN YOU PLAY.
STOP PLAYING ALL THAT > BULLSH*T > THOSE WEIRD NOTES, PLAY THE > MELODY!
MAKE THE DRUMMER SOUND GOOD.
DISCRIMINATION IS IMPORTANT.
YOU’VE GOT TO DIG IT TO > DIG > IT, YOU DIG?
ALL REET!
ALWAYS KNOW…(MONK)
IT MUST BE ALWAYS > NIGHT> , OTHERWISE THEY WOULDN’T NEED THE > LIGHTS
LET’S > LIFT THE BANDSTAND!
AVOID THE > HECKLERS
DON’T PLAY THE > PIANO PART> , I’M PLAYING THAT. DON’T LISTEN TO
ME > I’M SUPPOSED TO BE ACCOMPANYING > YOU!
THE > INSIDE > OF THE TUNE (THE BRIDGE) IS THE PART THAT MAKES THE
OUTSIDE > SOUND GOOD.
DON’T PLAY > EVERYTHING > (OR EVERY TIME); LET SOME THINGS
GO BY> . SOME MUSIC JUST > IMAGINED> . WHAT YOU > DON’T > PLAY CAN BE
MORE IMPORTANT THAN WHAT YOU > DO> .
A NOTE CAN BE AS SMALL AS A PIN OR AS BIG AS THE WORLD, IT
DEPENDS ON YOUR > IMAGINATION> .
STAY IN > SHAPE! > SOMETIMES A MUSICIAN WAITS FOR A GIG,
& WHEN IT COMES, HE’S OUT OF SHAPE & CAN’T MAKE IT.
WHEN YOU’RE > SWINGING> , SWING SOME > MORE!
WHAT SHOULD WE WEAR TONIGHT! SHARP AS > POSSIBLE!
ALWAYS LEAVE THEM WANTING > MORE.
DON’T SOUND > ANYBODY > FOR A GIG, JUST BE > ON THE SCENE.
THOSE PIECES WERE WRITTEN SO AS TO HAVE SOMETHING TO PLAY, & TO
GET CATS > INTERESTED > ENOUGH TO COME TO > REHEARSAL> .
YOU’VE GOT IT! IF YOU DON’T WANT TO PLAY, TELL A JOKE OR DANCE,
BUT IN ANY CASE. > YOU GOT IT! > (TO A DRUMMER WHO DIDN’T WANT TO
SOLO).
WHATEVER YOU THINK CAN’T BE DONE, SOMEBODY WILL COME ALONG
& > DO IT> . A GENIUS IS THE ONE > MOST LIKE HIMSELF> .
THEY TRIED TO GET ME TO HATE WHITE PEOPLE, BUT SOMEONE
WOULD ALWAYS COME ALONG & SPOIL IT.

T. Monk didn’t have to use an asterisk.

T. Monk didn’t have to use an asterisk.

True.

I thought it was Trevor Monk, conductor of the infamous 80 piece Philharmonic Kazoo Orchestra

That letter SCARED THE BEGEEZ out of me !

Its 100% my handwriting !

I remember listening to Thelonius many many times as a youth when people such as the Adderly brothers or GIllespie visited my father who had a Jazz radio show.

Brings back memories…

Dont want to look like Monk… but I hope that means I get some of his unkempt talent when it comes to music . . .

… im still waiting for it to happen

That bloody Spider SCARED THE BEGEEZ out of me!

Oh … I just thought of a stage-name for you …

Steve “Progressive” Tri-Fogel

savadius:

I hope that means I get some of his unkempt talent when it comes to music

Theolonius:

BUT IN ANY CASE. YOU GOT IT!

Unkempt talent - yeahh! :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses:
