I’m in the process of creating expression maps for the Orchestral Tools Svara sample library. Only the ornaments seem to defeat the Dorico 5 system so, when you attempt to record, notes appear, but nothing plays back. Point to any note with your mouse, however, and you will hear the whole ornament. So if I produce anything all the ornaments will be absent. I guess I should have expected that as ornament articulations are so complex I don’t think Dorico can be expected to understand them. Ultimately it’s left to the performer to improvise/express themselves. This applies to both the strings and the bansuri (flute). Alternatively I may include the core note of the ornament and simply provide the name given to it. Update: The Dorico 5 manual indicates that only trills are presently covered for playback although the intention is to provide support for other ornaments in a future update. Update 26 Feb 2025: Svara expression maps completed and all related ornaments added to both playing techniques and playback techniques.
