Working with choir scores

I’m new to Dorico, after 35 years with Finale. I’m working on a large work for Cantor and Choir. My question, the Choir parts go from SATB on a grand staff to 4 separate SATB staves and back. Should I do the Choir parts all on 4 staves and then combine them for the grand staff, or should I do a grand staff with SATB parts and then use additional separate SATB staves where needed, showing only the active staves?

I would do the latter. Although Dorico can condense choral music down onto a smaller number of staves, in practice this doesn’t work as well as it should. So until such time as we can improve condensing to make it work better with vocal music, I would advise managing this yourself, probably in much the same way you are used to from your Finale days.

Thanks, as I’ve been looking I was thinking that would be the better way. I used 2 staves for the grand stave and then those 2 staves became SA and the additional 2 staves for TB. Again, I’m just getting started. I also need to make the bracket only on the SATB staves, not including the cantor.
