Hello guys, how do I do this (in the first part of the video) in Cubase?
You can see in the first video that when I trim (or outright delete) the comped section from the main audio event, this does not affect the actual take/lane, whilst if I try that on Cubase, it does affect the take/lane.
In addition to that, on Cubase, if I trim or delete a comped selection from the main audio-event, this reveals another take/lane (probably the next below) instead of simply removing the required space from the comped main audio-event.
How do I prevent this from happening?
In short this is what I am trying to achieve:
- If I trim or delete part of the main audio, it should not affect the related source lane.
- If I trim or delete part of the main audio, it should not reveal other lanes because I maybe simply want empty space there and I can’t be wasting time deleting the same selection from every lane.
Thanks in advance
Hi,
The concept is different in Cubase and Studio One. In Cubase, you can see the real result. In Studio One, it’s (kind of) virtual. So in Cubase, if you change it, you are changing the real source. What has lots of advantages.
For the first need, given the way Cubase works, my inclination would be to just mute the clip section you want to stay in the underlying lanes but not appear in the comp. I believe that, if you’ve split the track summary events, you should be able to just click on it with the mute tool to do that, without having any of the lanes affected.
For the second need, if you want empty space and don’t want any of the other lanes to fill that space, what I usually do is use the cut (not sure if that’s the right name) tool in the track summary event, which cuts all lanes in the same place, then I just select all those clips and delete them. (It’s actually easier her to just stay with the selection tool and use Alt-Click where you want to cut, thus avoiding the need to switch tools between the cut and the selection of the clips.)
I agree that working with the events in the track summary can be confusing in some cases.
