Would this be a logical editor solution? Input monitoring on/off

Hi

I’m still new(ish) to Cubase, but loving it for music production.

In my workflow, I’m triggering external MIDI modules and record them back on a stereo audio channel. I then drag the recorded audio down to a blank area which creates a new track with the exact same settings (which is great). The only thing I’d like to have it not do, is have the monitoring enabled automatically as well.

Would the Logical Editor be the place where I can program a macro to send the recording (clip) to a new track, copy the inserts/sends etc, but have the channel monitoring not armed?

Thanks

Hi,

When exactly is the Monitor enabled? When you drag the Audio Event down? It’s not the case on my side, so it must be some kind of preferences settings (or a combination).

  • How is the Preferences > VST > Auto Monitoring set on your side? The default setting is Manual.
  • How is the Track Selection Follows Event Selection set on your side? The default option is disabled.
  • How is the Preferences > Editing > Project & MixConsole > Enable Record on Selected Audio Track option set on your side? The default setting is enabled.

My expectation is the following. If you have:

  • Enable Record on Selected Audio Track: enabled
  • Track Selection Follows Event Selection: enabled
  • Auto Monitoring: While Record-Enable
then it can happens, what you described.

You move the Audio Event down. The moved Audio Event is selected, therefore the Audio Track becomes selected. From the preferences, the selected track becomes Record enabled. From the preferences, the Record-Enabled track becomes Monitor enabled.

Hi Martin

Thank you so much for your detailed reply!

Changing these two setting to this combination has achieved exactly what I was looking for →

Project & MixConsole > Enable Record on Selected Audio Track option - change to OFF. But keep the MIDI one ON.

and

Changing Auto Monitoring to ‘While Record Enabled’

With this I can record the live input and then drag the audio to it’s own track without it auto rec/monitoring enabled.

Thank you very much.
