Well … not the whole album, but at least the two tunes I arranged using Dorico. Walk a Mile in My Shoe by Orrin Evans & the Captain Black Big Band was released Friday and was the most added album on the jazz radio charts last week. Most tunes are vocal arrangements (featuring amazing vocalists Bilal, Lisa Fischer, Paul Jost, and Joanna Pascale) and you can hear the whole album on YouTube here or whatever streaming service you subscribe to. Anyway, I was an arranger, Alto Sax., and Flute on it so please give it a listen! This was a really creative session with some incredible musicians, so it’s fun to finally have it out.
Great stuff! You are a killer on sax …
Wish you all the success you deserve with this album.
If I may ask, which are the names of the two tunes that you arranged using Dorico?

- Dislocation Blues (feat. Paul Jost)
- Sunday in New York (feat. Joanna Pascale)
- All That I am (feat. Bilal)
- Blues in the Night (feat. Lisa Fischer)
- Hymn
- Save the Children (feat. Bilal)
- Overjoyed (feat. Lisa Fischer)
- Smoke Gets in Your Eyes
- If (feat. Paul Jost)
That’s easy, @ko3st: it’ll be the two with extended alto solos…

I arranged If and Blues in the Night. For If I was free to do whatever I wanted so it’s pretty much a complete reharm. Blues in the Night was from a gig we did with Lisa about a year ago. We didn’t have a rehearsal with her, just a soundcheck, and she had sent me a recording of how she does it. (No idea who the band was on the recording.) That one is a bit more of a “Transcribed and Orchestrated by” thing than a true arrangement, as I didn’t want to throw her on that gig, but I did get a few slick things in there. Hymn was just a lead sheet, so we collectively improvised an arrangement on the spot.
Not this time, LOL!
@FredGUnn I always enjoy little stories behind a recording session, this was nice! Thanks for the little insight.
Hip charts, Todd! (And, of course, killer band and recording!)
Just bought the album on iTunes. Very inspiring. Love It. Thanks also for the always to the point answers on Dorico questions.
Nice charts and your Smokin’ on sax!
Wow, amazing! Blues in the Night was probably my favorite
Dang, we lost. But Nicole Zuraitis and Dan Pugach won, and I’m friends with Nicole, have worked with her before, and am really close with a bunch of guys in their band, so happy to see them all up on stage. I have an album in the can already with a different band (featuring Sting, Philip Bailey, Dianne Reeves, Samara Joy, Norah Jones, Jose James, Cecile, etc) coming out August 1st, so fingers crossed for next year. (Plus just did a recording session with Ledisi, who is singing at the Super Bowl pre-game, for a project that I don’t know when is coming out, that could be nominated.)
Congrats, sounds like it will be fantastic.
I have a few Dianne Reeves albums.
