Hello, I’m new here and I’m facing a couple of urgent problems that I can’t seem to solve. First, only the first page has the correct format with the music spreading to the bottom. All the subsequent pages only spread the music to half of the page. Second, page number 2 has only one bar, while all the others have four bars per page. I’m not sure, but I think that all of this started after I tried to add an arranger name, dedication, and subtitle. I think I accidentally pressed default pages instead of the first page in engrave mode. As soon as I saw my mistake, I moved to the first page, but the damage was done.
Vertical justification (spreading out the systems over the page) is controlled by the settings in Layout Options > Vertical Spacing > Vertical Justification. Almost certainly, your pages are less full than the first threshold in these settings. Lower it to something like 50% (or maybe even a little lower), and those pages should justify themselves.
Page two only has 1 bar because the first bar on p.3 has a frame break, which tells Dorico to start a new frame (page). Select that pink signpost and delete it, and those bars should flow back to p.2.
If you really want 4 bars per page, you might be better using the settings in Layout Options > Staves and Systems > Casting Off, instead of manually adding breaks.
Here’s a longer discussion of how the vertical justification settings work.
Fantastic! Thank you so much, issues solved marvelously.
If I’m not abusing of your generosity, in my score playback some instruments, like trombones for example lags behind the beat, is the a way to fix that?
That sounds unusual. Playback isn’t really my area, but I’m sure it would help others who might see this topic to know which playback template and VSTs you’re using. And if you could upload your project file, or a cut-down version of it that demonstrates the issue.
What you’re hearing might simply be that the trombones are recorded with a slow attack, which makes them sound late even though they aren’t. I guess that’s a compromise so that they’ll sound good playing soft chords in the background. The sounds don’t adapt to the style of music. If I’m right, the only way to solve it is to get other sounds.
This is written on the assumption that the brass sounds just slightly off. That’s normal. Maybe you have another problem that’s worse.
Edit: Never mind. I now see that you’ve started a separate topic for that question.
