Wrong VST is used to play the instrument

I added a VST instrument to an existing project with a VST. Changed the instrument to use the new VST (03) rather than the default one (02). The default one is still being used. The new VST doesn’t play.

This thread suggests there may be issues with Halion Sonic SE. It might be worthwhile opening the Steinberg Download Assistant and installing Halion Sonic 7.

Accessing HALion Sonic SE Instruments through Dorico

I’ve downloaded Halion Sonic SE3, and I can open it from my desktop; but I can’t get it to show up in Dorico VST instruments the way the YouTube tutorials show. How do I get Halion Sonic SE3 to show up in Dorico for playback?

The Piano in the video isn’t highlighted. Can you select the Piano and then view the Track Inspector (perhaps a screenshot)? My bet is (and which seems obvious) is that the Piano is actually routed to Halion.

derAbgang is quite right. Just loading a VST instrument instance on the VST & MIDI tab does not mean that it is automatically used. You need to click on the Track Inspector tab and there you route the player (e.g. Piano) to the specific VST instrument instance.
