X-Touch (+Extender) MIDI Remote Script (MCU mode)

X-Touch + Platform-M

Hi!

I’d like to know if it’s possible to configure a Behringer X-Touch as the Master and a Platform-M as the Extender, so that together they control 16 channels under a single Mackie Control setup.

In other words, can the X-Touch act as the main MCU unit (channels 1–8) and the Platform-M as the extender (channels 9–16)?
If so, could you please explain how to properly set this up?

Thanks in advance for any clarification!

Hi,

Yes, this is possible. Just as two Mackie Control devices to Cubase and select the given Input Ports.

Thank you for your answer, Martin, but I mean with this Midi remote script.

Hi,

I see. There is no way to merge multiple MIDI Remote Devices.

Hi Matthieu, do you know by any chance how to disable fadertouch activates record. I want to manually activate the standby record by pressing the button. Hope you can help me out again. With kind regards, Ron

Hi @ron1953

Please see the script documentation on the 1st page : Documentation from bjoluc

Probably “enableAutoSelect: false” is the answer for your question. It will not only apply to the recording button but on the whole track selection. But I find the workflow really better like this.

Thanks for this - been using it for the last 9 months - great and big add to usability being a one man musician without an engineer

I have a problem with the X-Touch on Cubase 14.0.41 Pro, Windows 11 latest Updates. It used to work just fine but started having issues couple months ago. When I open a project all faders in the Cubase Mixer go to their last saved position, but then after some background operation which i think has to to with the X-Touch they all go to Zero/Infinite “off”. I have to open the MIDI Remote under the menu Studio and click the rescan icon. It shows 4 instances of the X-Touch with one as disconnected and 3 others as connected. After the rescan only one shows connected and now the X-Touch updates and shows all the colors, etc. But the mixer levels are still all off. Then I have to load a Mixer Snapshot to get the faders back to their last saved position and the X-Touch follows. I never had this behavior before. I have tried older scripts and the issue also happens with them. Is it Cubase 14 or Windows? I will try on Cubase 13 and 12.
Total drag…

Well the issue is really bizarre!!!

Open a project on Cubase 13, the X-Touch works as it should.

Quit C13 and open the project in Cubase 14.0.20, the X-Touch works as it should.

Now close the project on C14 and open it again in C14, without previously “Quiting Cubase 14”, the X-Touch is back to not working as it should.

The same happens if “Quit C14” altogether and open the project again.

So C14 somehow corrupts the (.jason) file when closing or something like that???

Crazy

I kept experimenting last night, going from C13 to C14 always with the same project and copying and saving the .jason file from C13 to a diff. location and then using that after the problem appeard when opening C14. But on my last tries the weird issue stopped happening. So I am very baffled. Maybe something happens the first time C14 is updated, or used on a new project? Will keep experimenting today, but I am somewhat relieved that so far the same issue has not happened at all in C13 and maybe saving the file that C13 time stamps after closing can help when it appears again on C14. Every time either Cubase version quits it writes the globalmappings.jason file with a new time stamp. I haven’t checked if it also does that writes a new .jason when a project is just closed but Cubase is still running.

So this AM. I opened a project on C14, X-Touch OK. I closed it and open another one ( did not quit C14), X-Touch NOT OK (all black, not updating faders go to OFF. I deleted the globalmappings.jason file created with today’s time stamp and copied a previous saved one that was working OK. I opened again the project and X-Touch NOT OK. Quit C14 and then open it with the same project, X-Touch OK. Narrowing it down. But it would be a pain to have to delete and copy files every time. Hope someone at Steinberg is paying attention???

Updated C14.0.20 to the latest C14.0.41 again. Opened same project, X-Touch NOT OK. Did not change the .jason file. Uninstalled C14 and reinstalled C14.0.20. Open again the same project and now X-Touch OK. So I am staying on C14.0.20 for now until further notice as at least I can get the X-Touch to work reliably with shenanigans.

THIS:

Thanks Aram, I will test this out. I can get the X-Touch (No extender in my set-up) to work but it’s unreliable and definitely worst in C14.0.41 and better in C14.0.20. I just tried to connect it with MIDI cables and interface instead of direct USB (changed the Settings in the X-Touch from USB to MIDI and saved). But while I can get it to work, C13 or 14 does not seem to remember the MIDI Remote settings when quitting.

Thanks aram. Removing the unused, old, disconnected, and duplicate surfaces per your method seems to have helped the issue. I believe those duplicates where confusing Cubase on Project opening. It’s working well now under C14.0.20. Will test later with C14.041.

What I found its that I need to do this on all the old projects. Once its done on one project it will reopen correctly.

I apologize for this being a little off-topic, and please feel free to delete this post if it is too far afield. I am posting here because it might be of particular interest to readers of this thread, but not Cubase users in general.

I noticed that one of my X-Touch plastic fader caps is missing. I think a cat probably discovered that it is a great thing to chase around the house. No problem, I’ll just buy some spares. How hard could that be.

Long story short, Behringer lists them (they are the same for X-Touch and the X32 consoles), but you can’t order from Behringer. And if you could, they want $25 each.

I looked at all the likely places and I couldn’t find any after-market caps that would fit. eBay has some people selling OEM caps for $25ish.

I found a 3D print script and a friend of mine printed up a few for me. I’m going to try them out this evening. He printed enough for me and my cats. But I am wondering if anybody else needs some of these. If there is interest, I can have him print up a larger quantity, maybe in multiple colors. If anybody is interested, drop me a private message, so I don’t further pollute this thread. I’m thinking I would offer them on eBay for around $9 shipping included or a set of 9 for about $35. I’m not trying to make a bunch of money. I just thought it was weird that I couldn’t simply order it online for a fair price.

Hi everybody,

Do you think it’s interesting to upgrade the firmware of the xtouch ? i have the 1.22 version and it works quite good with cubase except one or two small issues. Is the version 1.25 recommended ?

Hi! I’m trying to assign a combination of buttons to cubase functions, but I can’t figure it out:( I see that some functions are already assigned to shift + save, undo, left L, Right R etc., but how to create my own custom combinations with Shift + F (function) buttons (for example). Does anyone know how to do it?

Best regards

Hi xtouch brothers.

Have you somebody experience, how to disable in this script “ENABLE AUTO SELECT” like in Mackie control? Thank you very much.

David.
