When importing an XML created in Sibelius where several instruments have had their “divisi” created by adding extra staves to them, Dorico imports them as single-instrument players with as many staves as needed.
How should this be managed, though? There are no signposts marking “+4 staves” at the beginning. Even the cellos are now imported as a section player with 5 staves but no apparent division. The choir, instead, is a single-instrument player with four staves, but no signposts.
I’m trying to avoid future problems.
Would it be better to create a new section cello and copy-paste the material from the main staff for the tutti, adding then divisions along the way?
My go-to model when things dont look quite right is as you suggested. I tend to create a new instrument and then copy the music into that. Heaven knows what the XML file had in it that can create issues later. But as they say, YMMV.
