XML Import TAB only, No Notation - New Dorico User from Finale

I’ve been using finale for exchanging XML files without problems for years. In Dorico the XML files I’m getting from my partner only import with TAB, no notation. I can change the instrument to piano for example and get notation but its a guitar chart of notation and TAB so this is also not correct. Is this an import issue with Dorico settings or do I have to fix this post import and if so what is the setup process to have this look like a Finale import?

Thanks for any tips!

Mark

Welcome.

Just a thought. Have a look at Library>Layout Options>Players>Fretted Instruments and see if this has set itself to Tab only.

Thanks for this. Unfortunately not the issue. I tried to chat with support and they told me they cannot assist with any xml import questions. Rough transition… It looks like it has something to do with the instrument staff name in Finale. If I remove that in Finale and export I get both parts albeit with missing fret numbers, in the wrong octave and no endings or repeats. There is also an ImportXML advanced preference for notation and tab to import separately. That seems important as well.

If you could upload one of your XMLs here (put it in a zip), I’m sure people (much brighter than me) will be able to help.

Janus, ultimately you got me on the right path and I have a workflow that should work moving forward. Appreciate it. Now if I can just figure out why my repeats are disabled!

Because your repeats do not make sense to Dorico. There will be one or more repeats where the corresponding start repeat is ambiguous or missing.
