In Cubase, Scrub and Shuttle are two ways to move through your audio/project to find a specific spot by ear.
Scrub lets you “drag” the playhead back and forth manually, like spinning an old tape reel by hand. As you move, you hear the audio play at whatever speed you drag — slow drag = slow playback, fast drag = fast playback. It’s great for pinpointing an exact moment, like finding the precise start of a drum hit or a word in a vocal.
Shuttle plays the audio continuously at a speed you control with a knob or jog wheel. Push it one way to fast-forward through the music while still hearing it, push the other way to rewind. Unlike Scrub, you don’t have to keep dragging — you set a speed and it keeps going until you stop.
The simplest way to think about it: Scrub = scrubbing back and forth by hand to find a spot. Shuttle = cruising forward or backward at a chosen speed.
