that was you - I actually remember. I didn’t know it was you. I meet so many people when I’m at such shows and
usually my life is all about airport-hotel-meeting room.
Re the GUI, we didn’t find time for a deep analysis yet. That’s why I cannot guarantee that it will change but assure that we will acutally rediscuss in the weeks to come. However, it will then be to late for the very next update 6.0.7, which will contain e.g. the renewned AAF filter I have promised early this year.

Are you going to give us back the old mixer layout for Control Room at least as an option or what is your plan?

This is EXACTLY what I suspected Timo and Steinberg was up to. They don’t answer because the decision has already been made. No need to reevaluate, but rather than own up to it and be honest about it we, the PAYING customers have to keep posting and posting to get a reply, a reply which is then not the entire truth.
I was excited to come and see the Nuage. And it’s a great looking product to be honest. I examined and fiddled with the board about 4-5 times while I was there. I didn’t go into the big booth because it seemed like a private affair and, honestly, I didn’t need the big setup that was in the room. But the board in front of the entrance was more of what I was interested in and it was accessible by simply walking up.
In my experience, there always seemed to be several people standing around examining it. But there really wasn’t anyone showing it off. Heck, I actually showed off the channel scrolling feature to a guy just standing there which got a big “Hey, that’s cool” smile. I finally got a rep to talk to me. My first question was about dealing with inserts. He brought up an insert which showed up in the middle of one of the screens, replacing the fader banks. I said OK, but how do it put multiple inserts up on the screen at once? Can this be done? His answer - 'No, you can’t do that."
And that was it. He had nothing else to offer about anything else.
No Nuage for me. And that’s the one thing I came to see.

The Nuage board had three screens. Two screens were fader banks and the one on the far right was the edit window. So he inserted a plugin onto a track - I can’t remember what plugin exactly - let’s say a compressor. OK, so now that it’s inserted he clicks on it and brings up the panel for that compressor plugin. The mixer on that screen completely disappears and you’re then only looking at the plugin panel in the center of a blank screen. You twiddle with it, close it, then you get your mixer window back. But he said I couldn’t look at more than just that one at a time and that was that.
That was hurtful because I routinely monitor multiple plugs at one.

By using the board, you can only open one plugin at the time, that is correct.
(And two “e” windows)
However, the old fashioned way, clicking on the plugins, works perfectly.

Our system has 2 fader banks, one control and a workspace.
In total, we have 4 screens.
The screen on the far right, in front of the workspace is a multi-purpose screen.
By using workspaces, we quickly switch between extended project monitor, marker/pool window and other uses.
You can put all of your plugins on that screen and happily switch between workspaces hiding and showing those plugin GUI’s.
It’s a little bit easy to shout “bad design” without having explored the possibilities.
And they are close to endless.
There is no board in the world which is going to be adapted to the specific workflow and needs of an individual user.
And yes, there are things that could have been better. As with any controller.
The difference between Nuage and any other controller is that it’s easy to get past these shortcomings. I don’t have any problem in using the mouse and keyboard from time to time. In fact I see the controller as a giant extention/add-on to my old way of working. (Remember that I am not a fan of controllers) There are jus too many things that still go faster and require less clicks and pushbuttons with a mouse & keyboard than with a controller. I don’t see why it should be one or the other.

On the contrary, between what Fredo showed with his pic and what this video shows:
it appears they are both right. You can monitor multiple plug ins on a screen while also focusing in on a specific plug in on another screen. For the way I like to work this single plug in focused on that window is great. John.
I wasn’t talking about that. I was talking about the GUI design.
For what it’s worth I think Nuage looks very good, looks like it would please clients (i.e. looks professional enough) and looks like it would speed up my workflow. I think they could have done some things better and I think the pricing could have been better as well. But all in all it certainly looks like a very good product in and by itself.
