Yamaha Reface CP. I see the device in the midi device manager but it doesn't work

Why is it such a PITA working with midi controllers. I got a Yamaha Reface CP. it outputs midi plug and play with Logic and Studio One. Cubase seems to want me to write a script. I see the device in the midi device manager. I choose it as the midi input device on the midi track. But it still doesn’t work. Steinberg should know that this is the main reason I flirt with other DAW’s constantly. Configuration is unnecessarily complicated with Cubase yet other DAW’s get that part right.

When you choose the Reface as a MIDI device, record-enable the MIDI track, press record and then play, do any events show up on the track?

Is this literal, or a figure of speech? Have you started a MIDI Remote Surface for the little cp?
