Yamaha's claim that steinberg does not publish Mac software

Well, thank you, Steinberg Forums, for your thoughtful email message expressing your concern of “we haven’t seen you in a while.” I figured “why bother” since Pro Tools alerts me at launch with this dialog…

<spectralayers.png>

I poked around a bit looking for SpectraLayers 11, and was directed to Yamaha, where I asked about SpectraLayers for macOS 11.7.10, Big Sur.

“Steinberg doesn’t publish software for Apple products,” came the reply from Yamaha. “Thank you,” I responded.

I’ve been using Pro Tools since 1991, when Digidesign, Audiomedia, and the Digital ToolBox were the order of the day, and AVID was something we knew nothing about. When I dismiss the alert box shown above and Pro Tools launches anyway, I’ve been going with that routine, and the music keeps coming. Am I wrong? Do I need SpectraLayers?

Thank you. (I’m 82 years old)

Welcome to the forum! No idea how you got to Yamaha or who you talked to, but that information is obviously incorrect :slight_smile:

I think only YOU can answer your question, though. Do you need it? Have you used it? You can always try a free trial and see if it suits your needs.

Edit: Your screenshot didn’t come through as I think new accounts are limited on posting ability. Just an FYI.

THANK YOU, Horg! I agree: no need for SpectraLayers here. I appreciate your warm and sincere response.

Here is the missing alert box. —Stan Coutant

Looks like your Pro Tools is configured to use SpectraLayers as an ARA plugin, and it’s either been deleted, moved, etc.

You can probably just remove that from Pro Tools, though I haven’t a Scooby on how :slight_smile:

?!?! Poked around a bit? On the internet? In your basement? Fireplace :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: Out in the garden?I’m guessing you mean internet search/ “googled”?

Whether or not you require SpectraLayers depends upon what your audio work is.

Personally, SL is a requirement

Actually I duck-duck-goed. But you’re right; the type of audio work determines the criteria.

Well, the current ProTools includes SL11 Go - a feature reduced version of the big Spectral Layers. It should work.
Have you followed the advice of the dialog box and reinstalled SL11 Go?
