Yes SL11 is good but not number one (for me)

I use SpectraLayers mainly for removing the lead guitar and lead guitar residue from guitar instrumentals. However, when I use SL as first option then all guitars (at least most of them) are extracted into the Guitar layer. There is no difference between acoustic and electric guitars and also not between lead and rhythm.
For this reason I checked on available online services and I found one that is perfectly capable of separating acoustic guitar from electric guitar.
So my way of working is now first use the online service to separate the lead guitar from the rest. This delivers two files:

  • one with the lead guitar
  • one with the rest.
I put both files into an SL project and start moving manually residue from one layer to the other (both ways). But first I separate the “rest” layer to all possible layers at extreme level.
This saves me a lot of time and improves the quality of the end result.
But as you guess it would be nice that I could save me the money for the online service and do all this in SL.
    Cheers,
    Jan

Which online service did you use?

Lalal.ai

It’s all relative to the source material imo I have an account with lalal and their algos really suck at separating electric guitar from acoustic guitar…on stuff I’ve run through for that purpose.

The key at this point in time is to try everybody’s algo tweaks on a case to case basis. There is no “best” for all cases. imo

This is not about who is the best. The quality depends on the quality of the offered material and a number of other things. As explained in my message I hope to get an SL with this possibility as it does not separate acoustic rhythm guitar from electric lead guitar at all. I had a number of perfect (95%) extractions with this way of working. SL was good to do the last 5 percent. If the material does not have an acoustic rhythm guitar and only an electric lead guitar with drums, synthesizer, strings, etc, then SL does a perfect job.
Unfortunately I have more material with more than one guitar, then with only one.
