What is the magical incantation (not just force duration) or option to make the first bar look like the second (3/4 time)?

Or, if you don’t want al 6 eighth notes to be beamed together (which I think will always happen when entering [3]/4 but I might be wrong), you’d have to use a hidden 6/8 time signature from the second bar onwards.

Magic … I spent far too much time scrolling notation options not even thinking to go over time signature input methods for grouping.

I prefer using ‘Beam together’ for individual cases (custom keyboard command), or the [3]/4 trick if the music would also allow beaming 6 quavers in many bars. I don’t think I’d use a hidden 6/8, it’s too much of a different metre altogether.

Just as a conductor/performer… unless the intention is the measure be conducted with two pulses per bar, please don’t do this. It will only lead to questions during rehearsal or incorrect interpretation of the rhythm, depending on the level of musician.
